Frequently Asked Questions

 Q:

Is there a special curriculum that the school uses as a part of the CEO’s District?

A: As a part of the Chief Executive Officer’s District, the school has implemented the research-based whole-school reform framework, Achievement First. Use of BCPSS curriculum and adopted materials have been enhanced through comprehensive and focused staff development as well as a variety of literacy building strategies for all disciplines. All teachers, both regular and special education, have actively engaged in professional development and have implemented Achievement First principles and practices in daily instruction. The school has extended its instructional day by 50 minutes, instituted a mandatory uniform policy, and has increased the amount of art, music, and physical education instruction.
Q:

What is the school uniform for Thomas G. Hayes students?

 A:

School uniforms are a must at Thomas G. Hayes Elementary School. Students are to wear school uniforms everyday to school. The uniforms consist of a white shirt with dark blue pants, jumpers or skirts. No jeans or casual clothes are expected. We are a school in the newly formed CEO’s District and it is imperative that our students come to school everyday dress in a school uniform. We are currently buying white tee shirts (and currently on order are white dress shirts) for students who are having difficulties acquiring the proper school attire. The shirts are given to the teachers and they will have the students, who are not properly dress, place the white tee shirts over their clothes.

Q:

What type of after-school programs are available to students?

A:

Thomas G. Hayes Elementary School provides a variety of resources and programs for students, including art, vocal music, physical education, a string music program, a computer lab, a performance-based center, and an alternative suspension room.
